Let’s assume that multiple devices operate within the same image vocabulary. As in language, the images they generate are the consequence of a combination of “words” that are “made, remade and unmade” (Deleuze, Difference and Repetition).

They display sentences and variations, points of arrival that evolve to points of departure for new configurations. The repetition of some behaviors allows us to suspect a discourse is being produced. 

This visual universe is built on physical phenomena. The here and now is always present and the dictatorship of the visible never fails to determine the result. These photographs however flirt with abstraction, they are ambivalent about the world and, as the thread that connects them to it gets thinner, the decisions made during the process becomes clearer. 

What is this that we see? Is it the trail creased by dozens of planes in the Lisbon sky (before the lockdown) or is it a diagram? The space of the sky and the self-cancelled space of a black background in a photograph are the same as they are different. The lines that cross it are an accumulation of successive points.

The pace of these points on their journey could determine a different image and, hence, the image tells us about coordinates, presence and absence. 

Between one photograph and the next there is a gap that remains hidden. It is a between-time of supposition and speculation, of an emptiness crammed with in- exhaustible not-here / not-now’s, accumulated in vertical stacks, expanding in all directions like the universe, suggesting hypothetical presences of images that did not happen.

Supposons que multiples dispositifs opèrent le même vocabulaire d’images. Comme dans une langue, les images qui en résultent génèrent des combinaisons de “mots” qui “sont faits, refaits et défaits” (Différence et Répétition, Gilles Deleuze). Ils nous proposent des phrases et des variations, des points d’arrivée qui évoluent vers des points de départ de nouvelles configurations. La répétition de certaines actions nous permet de déduire l’existence de règles et cela nous fait pressentir qu’un discours visuel est en train de se produire.

 

Cet univers plastique se construit sur le principe de phénomènes physiques. Le ici et maintenant sont toujours présents, l’omnipotence du visible ne manque jamais de déterminer le résultat, mais ces images s’éprennent d’abstraction, elles sont ambivalentes par rapport au monde. Au fur et à mesure que le fil qui les relie a lui s’étrécit, les décisions prises, pendant le processus de création de l’image, se révèlent plus perceptibles.

 

Que voyons-nous ? Les traces laissées par des dizaines d’avions dans le ciel de Lisbonne (avant le confinement) ou un diagramme ? L’espace du ciel et le fond noir d’une photographie dont l’espace s’annule sont une même chose et ne sont pas la même chose. 

Les lignes qui le traversent sont une accumulation de points successifs. Le rythme de ces points pourrait déterminer pendant son voyage une image différente et, donc, l’image nous parle de coordonnées, de présence et d’absence. Entre une photographie et celles qui vont suivre il existe un entre-temps qui demeure enfoui. C’est un temps présumé, de spéculation, le vide surchargé d’inépuisables ici-non/ maintenant-non, accumulés en piles verticales, se propagent dans toutes les directions comme l’univers, suggérant des présences hypothétiques d’images qui n'ont pas eu lieu.

Suponhamos que múltiplos dispositivos operam um mesmo vocabulário de imagens. Como numa língua, as imagens que deles resultam geram combinações de “palavras” que se fazem, refazem e desfazem (Deleuze, Diferença e Repeticão). Colocam perante nós frases e variações, pontos de chegada que evoluem para pontos de partida de novas configurações. A repetição de alguns comportamentos permite-nos deduzir a existência de regras e, com isso, desconfiamos que um discurso visual está a ser produzido.

Este universo plástico constrói-se com base em fenómenos físicos. O aqui e agora está sempre presente, a ditadura do visível nunca deixa de determinar o resultado, mas estas imagens namoram a abstracção, são ambivalentes em relação ao mundo e, à medida que o fio que as liga a ele se atenua, mais evidentes se tornam as decisões tomadas durante o processo de construção da imagem.

O que é isto que vemos? É o rasto vincado por dezenas de aviões no céu de Lisboa (pré-confinamento) ou é um diagrama? O espaço do céu e o espaço auto-anulado de um fundo preto numa fotografia são a mesma coisa e são coisas diferentes. As linhas que o atravessam são uma acumulação de pontos sucessivos. O ritmo destes pontos na sua viagem poderia determinar uma imagem diferente e, com isto, a imagem fala-nos de coordenadas, de presença e de ausência. Entre uma fotografia e as restantes há um entre-tempo que permanece escondido. É um tempo suposto, de especulação, o vazio atafulhado de inesgotáveis não-aqui/não-agoras, acumulados em pilhas verticais, expandindo-se em todas as direcções como o universo, sugerindo presenças hipotéticas de imagens que não aconteceram.
